London, Jan 5 (ANI): Colin Myler, the former editor of the now-defunct British tabloid News of the World has been made editor-in-chief of The New York Daily News.
According to The Guardian, Myler's appointment as editor-in-chief of New York's biggest-selling tabloid would give him a chance to wreak revenge on the Murdoch family, with whom he has had strained relations in recent months as the NOTW phone hacking scandal unfolded.
Rupert Murdoch, who sacked Myler when he shut down the News of the World in July 2011, also owns the great rival of the Daily News, the New York Post.
Martin Dunn, a former editor of the Daily News, said Myler was "obviously very upset at what transpired at News of the World."
"This will be a great opportunity for him to take his journalistic skills into battle with the Murdoch family in Rupert's own backyard," the paper quoted Dunn, as saying.
The paper also quoted a Manhattan media executive as saying that "this could be the start of yet another New York newspaper war."
Myler replaced Andy Coulson at NOTW in 2007 after royal editor Clive Goodman and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire were jailed for hacking into the voicemails of members of the royal family. (ANI)
