Lucknow, Tue, 03 Jan 2012 ANI

Lucknow, Jan 3 (ANI): In an endeavor to garner support for the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday promised to restore law and order, uproot corruption and lead the state on the path of development.

Yadav, who kicked off a procession today across the state with the message to defeat the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Government in Uttar Pradesh, was welcomed by scores of supporters during his campaign here.

The supporters were holding Samajwadi Party flags in their hands and cheering for the party.

Yadav on his part promised the voters that if the Samajwadi Party comes to power then they will ensure that law and order is restored in the state, uproot corruption and lead the state on the path of development.

"As far as the law and order of the state is concerned, we assure people that Samajwadi Party will take the responsibility and we guarantee that nobody anywhere will flout any law and if anybody breaks the law, then Samajwadi Party will take the responsibility of punishing them," said Yadav.

"Our priorities are that the farmers in the state should be happy, corruption should be rooted out and Uttar Pradesh should tread on the path of development. Presently, Uttar Pradesh is lacking behind in every field, our party wants to lead Uttar Pradesh towards development with our policies," he added.

Yadav further expressed hope that his party would come to power without anyone's help and work for the development of poor, farmers, labourers and Muslims.

"Samajwadi Party is constantly in touch with the public and reaching out to them in the 'Kranti Rath' and we have faith that the public will help us on the day of elections and will cast their vote for our party and will lead us towards forming a majority government and a government which will work for the poor, farmers, labourers and Muslims," said Yadav.

"People are fully aware with the fact that Samajwadi Party follows the values. We are hopeful that public will vote for us in majority in the coming days," he added.

Leaders of various other political outfits have also stepped up their efforts to garner support ahead of the Uttar Pradesh polls.

Uttar Pradesh is politically important, as it sends a large number of lawmakers to the Parliament in New Delhi.

Voting in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases starting February 4 and finishing on February 28.

Four other states, including Punjab, will hold elections between January 28 and March 3.

The results of the election would be declared on March 4. (ANI)
