Polls fever grips various states with a rejected aspirant sobbing before public

Shahjahanpur/ Lucknow/, Jan 3 (ANI): Dejected after being sacked for non-performance by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, former minister Avadhesh Kumar Verma sobbed before a congregation of people in Shahjanpur district.

 

Verma was seen crying after dismissal and sought apologies for any of his wrong doings.

 

"What should I say as all of you have come to support me; whatever I say from my true heart and soul, I wish to assert and want to apologise if I committed mistakes or if there were problems in my work as your legislator. Today, I pledged that I would not go back home until the time elections are going to commence," said Verma.

 

He further noted that Mayawati had not let him to contest from his constituency of Dadraul.

 

Meanwhile, at Lucknow, Chief Election Officer of Uttar Pradesh Umesh Sinha listed the entire draft roll of voters and also announced an overall increase of 13800000 voters in the state.

 

"Our draft roll was published on September 29 which listed 111900000 persons in the voters list. The last publication of January 2, listed 125800000 voters out of which 65200000 are male and 56500000 female voters. There has been an increase of 13800000 voters which accounts for about 12.5 percent increase in the overall electorate," said Sinha.

 

Voting in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases starting February 4 and finishing on February 28. Four other states, including Punjab, will hold elections between January 28 and March 03.

 

The results of the election would be declared on March 4. (ANI)
