Chennai, Dec 31 (ANI): Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), V Narayanasamy, on Saturday urged Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to provide monetary compensation with an aim to carry out relief and rehabilitation operations in the states hit by cyclone 'Thane'.

"Lot of damage has been done. Therefore, I requested the honourable Prime Minister that the central teams should go there, assess the damages and compensation has to be given to the states for relief and rehabilitation. "The Central Government will act quickly, but I made an appeal to the honourable Prime Minister for the early amount before the team comes and the interim relief has to be announced by the Government of India so that the relief work can be started immediately," he added.

The cyclone Thane has claimed 33 lives in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
