Islamabad, Dec 31(ANI): Former ambassador Husain Haqqani's counsel Asma Jahangir has said though she has accepted the Pakistan Supreme Court's decision to form a judicial commission to probe the Memo Gate scandal, she does not agree with the verdict.
She described the day of the verdict as a dark day for the judiciary because Pakistan's civilian authority had come under the army through the court's order.
Asma said she was forced to think that whether the Pakistan's judiciary was working for people or the establishment.
"I was expecting at least one dissenting voice against the judgement, but I did not see any ray of hope in the court today," The Daily Times quoted Asma, as saying.
"It is sad that the superior judiciary has done it and if saying this is a contempt of court, then I am ready to go to jail for the implementation of the rule of law," she added.
She said the court's verdict had given the petitioners far more relief than they had desired and given the national security more priority than fundamental rights.
Pakistan's Attorney General (AG) Maulvi Anwarul Haq said that the court's decision was not against the country's constitution, adding that everybody has a right to oppose the court's decision on any matter. (ANI)
