I have all the opposition by their balls: Imran Khan

Islamabad, Mon, 26 Dec 2011 ANI

Islamabad, Dec 26(ANI): Pakistan Tehrik- e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan has said he is convinced that the time has come for his party to prove its worth.

Imran is gearing up for the next general elections amid gaining widespread popularity in the country.

"During a match there comes a time when you know you have the opposition on the mat. It is exactly the feeling now, that I have all the opposition by their balls. Whatever they do now will backfire," The Telegraph quoted Imran, as saying.

His statement came after a YouGov-Cambridge poll found Imran as the most popular political figure in Pakistan and at least 100,000 people turned up at the PTI rally in Karachi on the occasion of Christmas.

"I promise we will end big corruption in 90 days. I've never seen a gathering like this in Karachi in two decades," a local journalist summed up Imran's promises, as saying.

Imran's opponents, however, have left no stone unturned to target him.

His Lahore headquarters were recently sealed over allegations of non- payment of taxes.

"They will throw everything at me. Last time around, when they panicked, they called Jemima part of a Jewish lobby. She's Christian, her mother's Christian, her father was Christian, but because the grandfather was Jewish it became part of a Jewish plot to take over Pakistan," Imran said.

Imran has raised millions of pounds for a cancer hospital and university, and raised huge flood relief funds to stake his claim for the forthcoming Pakistan elections.

But the only weakness of the PTI is its lack of experience in running the government because the party has so far captured only one seat in Pakistan's parliament.

Imran has also been frequently accused of being pro-Taliban and anti-American over advocating peace talks in Afghanistan and Pakistan's withdrawal from the war on terror.

Many analysts, however, believe such views have earned him the support of the Pakistan's military establishment. (ANI)
