With noble aim of combating the menace of female foeticide and for the enhancement of social status of the girl child, the Delhi cabinet on Monday put on stamp on the financial arrangement for the implementation of the much talked about ‘Ladli’ scheme.
The cabinet enhanced the initial amount for the Ladli scheme to Rs 10,000 from the existing Rs 5,000 at the birth of a girl child in a family whose annual income must not exceed to Rs one lakh.
Under the scheme the government would deposit a fixed amount at different stages of a girl child’s life and eventually this would be accumulated to Rs one lakh that would be paid to the girl on attaining the age of 18 years and passing out of Class X.
Hence onwards the Delhi government would contribute Rs 10,000 at the birth of the girl child and also contribute Rs 5,000 each time on her admission to Class I, Class VI, Class IX, Class X and Class XII.
But, such economic advantage would make available to those girl children born on or after January 01, 2008. Girl child born earlier than this date would not be benefited under this scheme. Besides, the applicant seeking benefit under the Ladli scheme must be a bona fide resident of Delhi for at least three years preceding the date of the application.
The Delhi Cabinet approved an arrangement with the State Bank of India to effectively implement the 'Ladli' Scheme.
As per the Government sources, SBI along with its insurance company has agree to offer maximum possible interest on amount to be deposited in the girl child’s account at different stages by the government, which would be accumulated to one lakh after attaining the age of 18 years and passing out Xth standard.
"The government has obtained the most competitive interest rates for the fixed deposit from a leading bank with a wide network of branches," said Sheila Dikshit, the Chief Minister of Delhi after concluding cabinet meeting.
Brief information of ‘Ladli’ Scheme
Aim
The aim of this scheme is to combat the menace of female foeticide, which has devastated demographic and social consequences, to restore the demographic sex ratio imbalance, to facilitate the birth of more girl children and to meet the felt needs of the women and girl children for which these rules have been framed.
Financial assistance
The Delhi government increased the amount paid to the girl child on her birth to Rs 10,000 from the existing Rs 5,000.
Also Rs 5,000 would be paid at different time intervals to the girl child each time on her admission to Class I, VI, IX, X and XII.
Eligibility Criteria
Girl child must be born in Delhi and not before January 01, 2008.
Parent’s annual income must not exceed Rs 1 lakh.
The applicant seeking benefit must be a bona fide resident of Delhi for at least three years preceding the date of the application.

I am a Permanent Resident of Delhi for more than 3 years.I have only 1 girl child who is born in 2003.
I have downloaded the form given on Site WWW.wcddel.com, when i went to East District Centre, located at 10,Geeta Colony for submission of form they refused to accept it and said that forms of girls born before 2008 will be received after July and not directly through parents but through school officials only.
What should i do and where should I submit the form as School Authorities refuse that they have no orders to submit the form. kindly suggest.

Department of Child Development located at Jal Vihar, Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi explains this Scheme is applicable to all the female children, irrespective of whether they have born before 1st January 2008 but the child must be a female. However, on the concerned website, i has been categorically mentioned under the Head "Eligibility Criteria" that Girl child must be born in Delhi and not before January 01, 2008.
I have a daughter aged about 14 years and studying in XI Class in a recognised public school. Kindly let me know whether she is also entitled to get the benefit under the ongoing Ladli Scheme. Thanks. Abdul Lateef
