Navdeep upsets top-seed Kyu-Tae- Im

India’s Navdeep Singh scripted an easy 6-3, 6-4 upset win over top seed Korean Kyu-Tae- Im while man-in-news Karan Rastogi rallied to overcome the stiff challenge of wild card entrant and compatriot Harsh Mankad scoring a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory in the $ 15,000 ITF tournament that commenced at the DLTA Complex here on Monday.

Eighth-seeded Karan Rastogi, who is involved in the ongoing Davis Cup drama battled for more than two hours to stay afloat in the tournament as he managed to pull off a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over his opponent.

Navdeep made most of the opportunities as he was on advantage with his opponent wasn’t feeling well. He will now meet the winner of the match between Divij Sharan and Huai-en Chang in the next round.

Vivek Shokeen outclassed Aditya Madkekar 6-1, 6-4 while Delhi's Ashutosh Singh fought hard before losing out to third-seeded Spaniard Guillermo Alcaide 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in his opening round match. Vinod Sridhar quelled the challenge of Vishnu Vardhan 7-6 (6), 6-4.

Puneet sails Collage Group to quarters

A fine knock of 55 by Delhi Ranji wicketkeeper Puneet Bisht helped Collage Group beat ITC XI by a massive margin of 132 runs to enter the quarter-finals of the second Mahender Shokeen Memorial Cricket tournament.

Brief scores: Collage Group: 208/8 in 40 overs (Puneet Bisht 55, Ashish Sharma 43, Pramod Bhati 30; KS Rana 3/29) beat ITC XI: 76 in 15.4 overs (Pankaj Joshi 31; Sanjay Gill 3/18 Joginder Singh 3/18, Adil Ahmad 2/13).

Mobin’s all-round display

Fine all-round display by Mobin Ahmad (3/38, 70) helped Railways beat Ministry of External Affairs by seven wickets in a league match of the eighth Commonwealth cricket tournament.

North Zone lifts VC Cup

A fine all-round display by Suresh Kohli (3/24, 68 not out) helped North Zone beat Vikas Sadan by 10 wickets and win VC Cup Cricket tournament.

Ashoka Club beat Rajdhani Club by 102 runs while Madras club lost to Kishan Ganj Colts by eight wickets in their respective matches of the DDCA League.

Fine century knock by Agnesh Surya (132) helped Vidya Jain Academy beat RCN Club by 79 runs to enter the final of the ninth Goswami Girdhari Lal Memorial Cricket tournament.

Brief scores: Vidya Jain: 291/9 in 40 overs (Agnesh Surya 132, Deepak Sharma 48; M Atiq 4/30, Rahul Rana 3/29) beat RCN: 212 in 39.3 overs (Arun Mishra 59, Farshat Hussen 69; Naresh Jain 3/41, Deepak Sharma 2/13, Chetan Sharma 2/40).
