Srinagar , Sat, 10 Dec 2011 ANI

Srinagar, Dec 10(ANI): Separatists belonging to Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Saturday protested in Srinagar against the human rights violations and atrocities committed on the Kashmiris by the armed forces.

On the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, the separatists aired their voice as they organised a rally, which commenced from Abi Guzar in the heart of Srinagar city and moved towards the main city centre Lal Chowk.

An independent legislator from the Langate constituency, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, said that there was need to take adequate steps to address the woes of the people as it continues to bleed.

"Today on the occasion of human rights day, we want to shake the conscience of the world so that they can listen to the voices of the burning valley. Today is the day when we should remember our responsibilities. Whatever is happening in the Kashmir valley in the last 20 years, this day is enough to remember those days. Already there has been lot of bloodshed in the valley and we plead (world) to respect the rights of the people of Kashmir," Rashid said.

Meanwhile, highlighting the plight of the people of Kashmir, Rashid demanded that the intellectuals should not work towards the fulfillment of their vested interests and take adequate steps to improve the condition of the people of Kashmir.

"We urge and we want to spread the message from Karna to Lakhanpur, on behalf of the rights of the Kashmiris, we as Kashmiris are one and are united. We want the intellectuals of India to introspect, rise above personal likes and dislikes and do justice to Kashmir," said Rashid. (ANI)
