Guwahati, Dec 10 (ANI): An international music fest, which brought together musicians of the northeast and national and international musicians was recently organised in Guwahati.
Renowned musicians and artists from the northeast like Guru Rewben Mashangva, Somnath Bora Ojha, Sunita Bhuyan and others performed here to the delight of the people.
One of the main highlights of the event was the performance of the bamboo orchestra that only uses instruments made from bamboo.
"We have launched five instruments here and are known as the Assam bamboo band. We have performed in the Assam and New Delhi and have got public appreciation. We hope that the appreciation continues so that we can perform at higher levels," said Hiranya Saikia, member of bamboo band.
The aim of the festival was to expose the people of the northeast to the best regional, national and international musicians.eminars, workshops as well where discussions were held on how to keep folk music alive and awareness on folk instruments was also disseminated among the people.
"The folk music has to be blended with the contemporary tunes to keep it going. One has to understand the concept of global music and music is a living object and need up gradation from time to time," said Abhaya, an artist from Nepal.
The event was organized by the Eastern Music Beats society in collaboration with the Northeast Zonal Cultural Centre.(ANI)
