Bajrang Dal activists brandish swords in MP
Indore, Oct6 (ANI): Hundreds of Bajrang Dal activists brandished swords during a rally in Indore on Sunday as part of ongoing 'Navaratra' festival.
Some of them rode motorcycles while others were on foot, dancing to drum beats.
The outfit has been blamed for a number of attacks on Christians in Orissa and Karnataka.
The public display of weapons is banned under law, but dozens of policemen deployed around the market square remained mute spectators.
The activists defended their show of might, saying it was a time-honoured tradition of the festival.
"The festival of Navratra signifies strength. The worship of weapons holds significance in this festival.," said Pradeep Gaur, a Bajrang Dal activist.
The Navratra festival is celebrated in honour of the Goddess Durga. It is believed that during the days of Navratras, the Goddess Durga descends on earth to rid it of demons and blesses her devotees with happiness and prosperity. (ANI)
