Washington, Dec 2 (ANI): The United States and Israel have described Iran as the greatest challenge in the Middle East, as it is pursuing a nuclear programme.
"It is clear that Iran is the greatest challenge we face today in the Middle East," both sides said at the semi-annual strategic dialogue in Washington, Xinhua reports.
"Iran's continued non- compliance with its international obligations related to its nuclear program, as well as its continued support for terrorist organizations, are of grave concern to our two countries and the entire international community," U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns and Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon, said.
"Continued efforts by the international community are critical to bringing about change in Iranian behaviour and preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapons capability," they added.
The U.S. had earlier imposed sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.
The International Atomic Energy Agency report had earlier pointed out that Iran was bent on acquiring nuclear weapons but the country countered the statement saying that the nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes. (ANI)
