Zardari terms NATO attack on Pak troops 'violation of Pakistan's sovereignty'

Islamabad, Sun, 27 Nov 2011 ANI

Islamabad, Nov 27 (ANI): Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has strongly condemned the NATO helicopters' attack on Pakistani troops in two Pakistan Army border posts in Mohmand Agency, terming it a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty.

While strongly protesting the incident that killed up to 28 Pakistani soldiers, Zardari urged NATO and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to take urgent action against those responsible for the attacks, The Daily Times reports.

Reports suggest that Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani called on Zardari at the Presidency on Saturday and discussed the incident.

Gilani said that he had summoned a meeting of the Defence Committee of the Cabinet at the PM House on Saturday to discuss this issue and to formulate the government's response in the aftermath of this incident.

Following the incident, Pakistan's acting Ambassador to the US Iffat Gardezi had urged the foreign ministry in Washington to convey Islamabad's protest to the US government urgently,

Yesterday, the political administration of the Khyber Agency halted supplies to NATO forces in Afghanistan after being ordered by the Pakistan Government to do so following the aerial attack near the Pak-Afghan border.

Hundreds of containers and oil tankers were halted at a check post in Tehsil Jamrood. (ANI)
