Angad Kalaan shines in Kingfisher's victory (Capital Sports)

A sparkling performance by experienced Angad Kalaan enabled Kingfisher First team to beat Brave Heart in the eight-field Prozone Liberty International Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia Gold Cup polo tournament played at the Jaipur Polo Ground here on Tuesday.

Starting with an with an advantage of 2 ½ goals handicap Brave Heart team, led by Lt. Col. NS Khera, went ahead just before the end of the first chukker through a 30-yard penalty conversion. In reply Kingfisher First's Adhiraj Singh put up a long nice ball to Angad Kalaan who made no mistake in restoring parity.

Kingfisher First went all out against their opponents in the second chukker. Angad Kalaan struck one more to surge his team ahead through a fine 30-yard penalty conversion after being fouled by Brave Heart.

Once the Kingfisher got into lead, they never looked back and even denied any chance to their opponents to settle down further as they added three more goals to their tally after Basheer Ali converted two and Kalaan scored once. The second chukker ended with a score of 5-3 ½ in favour of Kingfisher First.

Adhiraj slotted the sixth goal in the third, after receiving a long pass by Ali. Another foul by Brave Hearts saw Kalaan taking the tally to 7 as compared to rivals 3 1/2. Brave Heart tried their hard to stage a comeback into the match but could not be able to do it.

Lt. Col. Shekhawat added one more in the final chukker but two more goals by Kalaan finally sealed the fate of opponents as Kingfisher First finished off the proceedings with a final scoreline of 9-4 ½.

Pankaj scalps four

A fine bowling spell by Pankaj Avlash (4 for 19) helped World Bank XI beat Doordarshan XI by six wickets in a league match of the 8th Commonwealth High Commission cricket tournament.

Brief scores: Doordarshan XI: 114 in 23.4 overs (Rajender Kumar 31 n.o.; Pankaj Avlash 4/19) lost to World Bank XI: 115/4 in 22.3 overs (Kenith Cardoz 34; BP Raju 2/24).

Neeraj, Pradeep shines for Ravindra School

Fine half-century scored by Neeraj Bansal (57) and a three-wicket haul by Pradeep Parashar (3/37) guided Ravindra Public School to beat Alert Academy by five wickets to enter the quarter-finals of the 2nd Mahender Shokeen memorial meet.

Brief scores: Alert Academy: 201 in 38.2 overs (Abhinav Bali 79; Pradeep Parashar 3/37) lost to RPS: 204/5 in 36.4 overs (Neeraj Bansal 57; Vinit Dahiya 3/32).

Young Friends enters Khushal memorial final

Fine unbeaten knock of 34 by Yohan Herbert and equally good bowling performance by Naved Hussain (3/17) helped Young Friends Club beat Vidya Jain Academy by eight wickets to enter the final of the Khushal memorial day/night under-17 tournament.

Brief scores: Vidya Jain Academy: 105 in 18.4 overs (Avinash Gange 35, Naved Hussain 3/17) lost to Young Friends: 106/2 in 15.5 overs (Yohan Herbert 34 n.o.).

Suresh excels

A fine bowling spell by Suresh Kohli (7 for 4) helped North Zone beat South Zone by 10 wickets in a league match of the VC Cup.

Brief scores: South Zone: 33 in 14.2 overs (HK Gupta 15, Suresh Kohli 7/ 4) lost to North Zone: 37 in 4.5 overs (Suresh Kohli 22 n.o.).

Pradeep shines with bat

Pradeep Chawla's knock of 61 runs helped Malviya Club beat LB Shastri by 80 runs to enter the semi-finals of the ninth Goswami Girdhari Lal Memorial cricket tournament.

Naresh’s effort goes in vain

A six-wicket haul by Naresh Kumar went in vain as Delhi Administration defeated State Bank of India by 58 runs in an Elite division DDCA league cricket match.

Open trials for Delhi Athletics team

An open trial has been scheduled to select the Delhi state athletics team for the upcoming national meet. The trials for different events will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on February 22 at 3 pm.
