President Patil, Manmohan Singh greet nation ahead of Guru Nanak Jayanti

New Delhi, Nov. 9 (ANI): President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh have greeted the nation on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, which is being celebrated tomorrow.

 

"On the auspicious occasion of the Birthday of Guru Nanak Devji, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens," said President Patil in her message.

 

"May all of us strive to practice the revered Guru's noble teachings in our daily lives and strengthen the bonds of unity and oneness in our society," she added.

 

The Prime Minister in his message said that Guru Nanak's teachings for an honest, truthful and virtuous life continue to guide humanity.

 

"His message inspires us to embrace equality and compassion," Dr. Singh added.

 

Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh guru and the founder of the Sikh religion, was born on the full moon day in the month of Kartik as per the Hindu calendar. Hence, his birthday is celebrated as Guru Nanak Jayanti. (ANI)
