BJP accuses Rahul Gandhi of " silence" on corruption, fuel price hike

Bhagalpur , Fri, 04 Nov 2011 ANI

Bhagalpur, Nov 4 (ANI): Lashing out at Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is on a surprise visit to Uttar Pradesh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain on Friday question over latter's silence on various corruption scandals that had emerged in the past one-year and the continuous increase in fuel price.

"Rahul Gandhi often visits Uttar Pradesh and discusses problems of the people. But why does he remain silent on the issues of corruption and inflation? He must answer all these questions," Hussain told the media here.

On Thursday, the state owned oil companies announced an increase in petrol prices by Rs. 1.82 per litre.

He also slammed the Congress party for remaining silent on the involvement of Home Minister P. Chidambaram in the multi-billion dollars 2G scam.

"Congress is trying to misguide people of the country by trying to suppress those who are raising their voice against corruption. Now Congress has to give answer to this question as to why P Chidambaram is still holding the position of Home Minister after serious allegations are levelled against him in a major scam,? he asked

"Today, the Congress, which follows the principle of coalition politics, what is preventing them to remove Chidambaram from his post? If Raja is in jail for being involved in 2G-spectrum scam then why Chidambaram is outside? So I believe whoso- ever would raise voice against corruption, then congress will try to misguide people about that person," he said.

Meanwhile, lauding veteran social activist Anna Hazare for breaking his 19-day long vow of silence, Hussain said that Hazare must guide the nation, which unites in its fight against the rampant corruption that is prevalent in the country

"It's time to raise voice against corruption spread in the country. Anna broke his vow of silence and we welcome this step. In the kind of environment that is prevalent in the country against corruption, his voice against must remain firm," he added.

Hazare broke his 'vow of silence' after paying tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at the Rajghat earlier in the day. (ANI)
