New Delhi, Oct 3 (IANS) Ahead of the festive season, the central government has decided to give 73 days' wages as productivity-linked bonus (PLB) to employees of the Indian Railways, the cabinet announced Friday.
It will cost Indian railways an additional Rs.12.4 billion.
The payment of PLB, which is equivalent to 73 days wages, will be given to eligible non-gazetted railway employees for 2007-08.
The government has also decided to enhance the wage ceiling from Rs.2,500 to Rs.3,500 per month with effect from April 2006 for payment of productivity-linked bonus to all eligible government employees in addition to employees of the railways.
Accordingly, bonus for 2006-07 and 2007-08 will be calculated on the basis of the revised ceiling of Rs.3,500.
