UPA Govt. is against anti-graft whistleblowers, says Gadkari

New Delhi, Mon, 31 Oct 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari on Monday slammed the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre saying that it is against anti-graft whistleblowers.

Gadkari today met two former party MPs Fuggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Singh Bhagora, besides Lal Krishna Advani's former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni, who are in judicial custody in connection with the cash-for-vote scam, at the Tihar jail.

"The people who worked towards revelation of corruption and acted as whistleblower, such honest men have been imprisoned. The UPA Government is corrupt and had bought the lawmakers during the trust vote in order to save. The government has filed false cases and FIRs against the people who exposed this incident as a result of which our lawmakers, including Mr. Sudheendra Kulkarni. This is a matter of great pain for us," said Gadkari after the meeting.

Gadkari said the Congress Party was behind the entire plot behind the scam, which can be proven by his BJP colleagues in jail.

"This is a fact which can be proven by Mr. Kulkarni that during those days the Congress General Secretary Ahmad Patel and other leaders of the Congress were involved in corruption and buying of lawmakers. They had hatched and certified the plan and are roaming freely, whereas innocent people are behind bars," he said.

Gadkari also hit out at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and termed it as the 'Congress Bureau of Investigation'

"According to my opinion, office of the CBI should be opened inside the Congress office building. It is the 'Congress Bureau of Investigation'. This is the same CBI, which under the pressure of the Congress had changed their affidavits before the Supreme Court against Mulayam Singh and Mayawati," said Gadkari.

"It would be appropriate for them to operate from office of Congress Party as they have lost their credibility. The CBI only works to blackmail the political opponents of the Congress. The public has no faith on the investigations being conducted by the CBI," he added.

Kulkarni, who is in jail since September 27, has challenged the trial court's order, which rejected his bail plea, saying he was the 'guiding star' and 'facilitator' of the whistle-blowing conspiracy.

Kulkarni claimed in his petition that the BJP MPs and he were involved in the sting operation conducted with the help of a private news channel, only to expose the 'horse trading' that was going on to save the UPA-I Government during the confidence vote in the Lok Sabha on July 22, 2008.

Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj had also visited Tihar Jail earlier this month to express her solidarity with the jailed party leaders.

The BJP has so far maintained that its jailed MPs had acted as whistleblowers and exposed attempts to buy lawmakers to win the 2008 trust vote. (ANI)
