Pint-sized Luxembourg also celebrates Diwali

Nevada (US), Oct 26 (ANI): Luxembourg; a pint-sized one-of-the wealthiest country of the world whose about 87% population is Roman Catholic; is reportedly also celebrating Hindu festival Diwali.

 

To be held on October 29, this few hours long Diwali event will reportedly include live dance, singing, dhol percussion, etc., performances at the Centre Soci?taire et Culturel an der Eech Leudelange. Indian food will be served at this "colourful and vibrant soir?e", for which tickets cost up to 40 Euros.

 

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, applauded Diwali festival organizers for keeping the faith and tradition alive. It was important to pass on Hindu spirituality, concepts and traditions to coming generations amidst so many distractions in the consumerist society, Zed stressed.

 

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, urged Luxembourg Government to add Diwali into the list of annual festivals of the country and help the Hindu community to establish a Hindu temple in Luxembourg.

 

Another Diwali event was also reportedly held on October 22, which included Bollywood style dancing, tombola, Indian cuisine, etc.

 

There are about few hundred India-descent people in Luxembourg, which has an Indian Association (since 1991) and Indian Business Chamber.

 

Most popular of Hindu festivals Diwali, the festival of lights, aims at dispelling the darkness and lighting up the lives and symbolizes the victory of good over evil. Diwali falls on October 26 this year. Hinduism is the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal.

 

A fairy-tale stuff country with the motto "We want to remain what we are", Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is trilingual (German, French and Luxembourgish) consisting of an army of only 800 and traces going back to 10th century. Grand Duke Henri is Head of State while Jean-Claude Juncker is Prime Minister. (ANI)
