Mansehra, Oct 26(ANI): The US Ambassador to Islamabad, Cameron Munter, has expressed his optimism that the Pakistan-US relationship would grow and improve in the future.
"This is the desire on both sides and I am optimistic that ties between the two countries will grow in the future," The News quoted Munter, as telling reporters after inaugurating three school buildings in Khawari.
He said that the United States wanted strong, stable and free Pakistan and Afghanistan since this was in the interest of America and the entire region.
He added that both Pakistan and Afghanistan were friends of the US.
During his talk with reporters, Munter mostly focused on Pak-US relations and said that his country would continue providing assistance to Pakistan in the future as well.
However, he parried questions about the recent tension in Pak-US ties and the controversial statement of Afghan President Hamid Karzai that his county would stand by Pakistan in case the US or India attacked it.
Earlier, dancing to the beat of drums, students and local people accorded a warm welcome to Munter and his wife, Dr Marilyn.
US Consul General in Peshawar, Marie Richards, Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra) Chief of Staff, Brigadier (r) Wajid Ali, District Coordination Officer, Amber Ali Khan, and District Police Officer, Mohammad Ijaz, were also present on the occasion.
The US envoy visited the newly reconstructed schools and met male and female students separately.
Munter, who appeared impressed by the warm welcome extended to him and his wife, elaborated on current Pak-US relations and said: "Look around you in this town at what we have been able to achieve as a partner with Pakistan. This is the reality of where our relations with Pakistan are going."
Speaking on the occasion, Wajid Ali thanked the American people for their generous support in the field of health and education, and said that the USAID had pledged to reconstruct 34 damaged school buildings, out of which 21 had already been rebuilt. (ANI)
