Cabinet approves new wages for journalists

New Delhi, Oct 25 (ANI): The Union Cabinet today decided to implement the wage board recommendations for journalists and non journalists providing a quantum jump in their salaries. The recommendations will be implemented with some modifications.

 

Briefing media after the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said the recommendations will be applicable from July 1, 2010.

 

She, however said, transport and house rent allowance will be paid from the date of the notification.

 

The Government had earlier constituted two Wage Boards in May 2007.

 

The Chairman of the Wage Boards, Justice G.R. Majithia, submitted the final report to the Government on December 31, 2010.

 

The recommendations contained in Chapter XIX and XX of the final report will be published in the Gazette of India for implementation by the newspaper establishments and news agencies.

 

Over 40,000 newspaper employees in the country will benefit from this decision. (ANI)
