Indian army chopper safely lands back in Kargil

New Delhi, Sun, 23 Oct 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Oct 23(ANI): The Indian army helicopter, which was in the middle of a controversy after it breached Pakistan's airspace, has landed back in Jammu and Kashmir's Kargil district.

The four officers on board the helicopter - three pilots and a crew chief - were earlier taken into custody by the Pakistani military after it was forced to land in Skardu region.

Army PR Virendra Singh told ANI that the officers were allowed to leave after being questioned.

The Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan are currently in touch regarding the issue.

It is believed that bad weather may be the reason behind the helicopter breaching Pakistan airspace.

Earlier, Pakistan's chief army spokesman Major General Athar Abbas had said that they were investigating how the helicopter came to cross the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border between the two countries.

"The Indian helicopter violated our air space and flew way inside the Pakistani territory. It was forced to land at Skardu," Major General Abbas had said.

"Four members of the crew - three pilots and a crew chief - have been taken into custody. We have informed the Indian authorities in order not to raise concern on their part," he had added. (ANI)
