Imphal, Oct 22 (ANI): A student rally organized under the banner of Sadar Hills Private Schools Association, Kangpokpi has urged the blockaders to reach an amicable solution with the government to end the stalemate.
The three month long economic blockade of Manipur by the Sadar Hill District Demand Committee (SHDDC) has severely affected the socio-economic development of Manipur.
Nearly 20 schools of the Kangpopki area participated in the protest that began from Thomas Ground and ended at the District Commissioner's Office.
They addressed a memorandum to Chief Minister, Ibobi Singh asking him to look into the matter immediately.
"It has been long time that blockade was enforced and since then the students have been facing hardships, especially those who are in class X because we are preparing for matriculation exam and it is a great loss for us," said a student.
Members of SHDDC on the other hand are adamant on their demand refusing to heed to local sentiments.
The SHDDC demand has met tough resistance from United Naga Council. They have been opposing the creation of Sadar Hills since the beginning.
Recently, Naga students living in Delhi under the aegis of Naga Students Union protested against the SHDDC, saying that their demand is illegal.
"We are not against Kukis and Meiteis but we are against the formation of Sadar Hill district," said Worso Zimik, Spokesperson, NSUD.
