UAE to back Pakistan's UNSC non-permanent seat bid

Islamabad, Oct 20(ANI): The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has extended its support to Pakistan for its candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

 

UAE Ambassador Essa Abdulla Al Basha Al Nuaimi called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday at the Prime Minister House and assured that his country was committed to support Pakistan's candidature for the UNSC's non-permanent seat, the APP reports.

 

Gilani expressed deep sense of gratitude for the UAE government and the leadership for the worthwhile support, adding that the two countries share common history, culture and religion spread over hundreds of years.

 

He said that Pakistan was looking forward to become a member of the Council of Gulf Countries to become partner with others for promoting the cause of peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

 

Gilani also appreciated the generous assistance of the UAE government during natural calamities in Pakistan- including the devastating earthquake, last years' floods and in the aftermath of the rains in Sindh, providing relief items and supporting rehabilitation. (ANI)
