New Delhi, Oct 15 (ANI): Defence Minister A.K. Antony on Saturday said the corporate sector must come forth in providing a 'second career' to retired Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel and bank on their varied skills and expertise.
Antony, who inaugurated the Indian Air Force Placement Fair 2011 here, said: "I am sure that the sixth placement fair that is being organised with the active participation of the diverse sectors of trade and industry from all over the country will facilitate the starting of a second career apart from the IAF to retired air warriors."
"I am confident that the general industry will gain immensely from these already trained and disciplined air warriors by effectively utilising their expertise and innovative skills at a time when our economy needs large, skilled human resources," he added.
Incidentally, this was the sixth edition of the annual Placement Fair held to assist the former air warriors in their resettlement after hanging their boots.
More than 16,000 retired personnel have registered for this year's Employment Fair, which happens to be the sixth edition. Around 800 companies are expected to scout for talents of veterans from the Indian Air Force.
Since 2007, the placement cell of Air Force Association, a forum of former IAF personnel received more than 12,760 applications.
2007 was announced the 'Year of Placement' for retired personnel, during which they had organised special placement drives, exclusively for the benefit of ex-servicemen. (ANI)
