Shimla, Oct 15 (ANI): In a bid to promote tourism in Himachal Pradesh, the state authorities organised an international dance festival with performers from Russia, Brazil, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Italy taking part in the event.

The two-day festival kicked off on Friday in which over thirty artistes presented elegant dance forms including ballet and tap dance.

Large number of local and international audience turned up to catch a glimpse of international dance performances in the picturesque Shimla.

The Director of language, art and culture department, Prem Sharma, who is also the organizer of the event, said that the event aimed at providing a platform to international artists in India and to promote tourism in the state.

"It's an international dance festival, and the state authorities have made efforts to draw more tourists from various parts of India and abroad to this tourist spot, Shimla and also to encourage international art and culture in our country with our national festivals," said Sharma.

"We have organized this two-day special international festival in which artists from Russia including Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan belt will present their traditional dance forms," he added.

The international artistes praised the state authorities for the initiative and said that art was a medium through which people from different cultures can speak in a common language.

"I think this is one of the most important things because language of art is a universal language, it doesn't need interpretation," said Alleva, director of Russian dance troops.

"Every year we are bringing best groups from Russia and from other countries. So I think that it is something on the level of art, unites people without much description or an explanation," she later added (ANI)
