Oz companies paying shoppers to spy on staff, competitors using iPhone's 'Field Agent'

Canberra, Mon, 10 Oct 2011 ANI

Canberra, Oct 10 (ANI): Tech savvy shoppers in Australia are being paid by companies to spy on their retail staff and monitor their competitors using iPhone's recently launched application 'Field Agent.'

The application, which was launched last month in Australia, is doing a booming trade in the country by paying shoppers to provide retailers with 'in-store intelligence' such as staff performance and competitor pricing.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, companies simply list the job they need done on the app, whether it is to take a photo of a counter display or to check the price of a certain product.

The shoppers with the app then select a job in their area, and depending on the difficulty they are paid anywhere between four dollars to 20 dollars.

Penny McConnell of Hudsons Coffee, which has 64 stores across the country, recently used Field Agent to monitor a two-dollars bagel with any coffee promotion, the Herald Sun reports.

"The major benefit for us is having eyes on the ground in our stores without having to be there. Basically, we get to see what's happening in our stores at all times throughout the day," McConnell said. (ANI)
