Shiromani Akali Dal pledges support to Advani's 'Rath Yatra'

New Delhi, Oct 4 (ANI): The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday pledged support to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Lal Krishna Advani's anti-corruption 'Rath Yatra'.

Leaders of the SAD, a regional ally of the BJP, met Advani at his residence here with an aim to express their support for his upcoming campaign against corruption and felicitated him.

Shiromani Akali Dal General Secretary Kuldip Singh Bhogal said the whole Sikh community supported Advani's anti-corruption procession.

"We have come to Advaniji's house on behalf of the Sikh community. Advaniji's anti-corruption 'Rath Yatra' will start on 11th October. Today, we want to tell him that Shiromani Akali Dal, Sardar Prakash Singh Badal, Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal and the whole Sikh community is with you," said Bhogal.

The Shiromani Akali Dal leaders were clearly miffed with the UPA Government and Manjit Singh, President of the Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal, alleged that the government shielded its senior corrupt ministers.

"His (Advani) 'Rath Yatra' against corruption will begin from the 11th of October. In India currently, the poor are suffering, inflation is galloping and corruption is at its zenith. The approach of the government towards corruption is that no action is being taken against the senior ministers accused of corruption and they are being protected," said Singh.

The leaders later presented Advani with a sword and a copy of the 'Bhagwad Gita'.

The BJP has chosen the birth anniversary of Jayprakash Narayan on October 11 and his birthplace Sitab Diara in Bihar as the venue to launch the yatra.

However, many political parties have claimed that Advani's procession was motivated by the upcoming general elections to be held in 2014.(ANI)
