Social activist says police targeting her for crusades against rights violations

Jaipur, Tue, 04 Oct 2011 ANI

Jaipur, Oct 4 (ANI): Reacting to the raid conducted by police at her residence in Jaipur, Maoist sympathiser and member of People's Union for Civil Liberties organisation, Kavita Srivastava has said the police is targeting her due to her contribution to various crusades to expose government atrocities and other human rights violations.

"Why did they do this? Why are they targeting me? It is because in Chhattisgarh we have been at the forefront of the release of Binayak Sen. It is a daily phenomenon for the police to beat up and arrest our fellow activists on false charges. So, we have worked a lot on all these issues," Srivastava told the media here.

"So, the Chhattisgarh Police are very upset with me. Here even the Rajasthan police and government are also not happy with me. We recently exposed the Gopalgarh and other related incidents. So, they have targeted me so as to intimidate my family and me and give me a warning to not go to Chhattisgarh. So, we are very disturbed and angry due to it and we will fight it," Srivastava added.

She further said she would take up the matter with THE higher authorities.

"We will meet the Chief Minister and, we will take up this matter to higher authorities in the central government, against this misbehavior that they have done to intimidate us, as this is not acceptable. We will demonstrate against it," said Srivastava.

Srivastava has been an active crusader in anti-government agitations demanding the release of noted civil rights activist Binayak Sen. (ANI)
