Top Al-Qaeda bomb maker did not die in US airstrike in Yemen

London, Oct 3 (ANI): Al-Qaeda's top bomb maker has survived the recent US airstrike in Yemen that killed American terror cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, it has emerged.

The US drone strike on Friday killed al-Awlaki and an American propagandist, Samir Khan, who published a slick English-language web magazine that spouted Al-Qaeda's anti-Western ideology.

US intelligence officials had said it appeared that bomb maker Ibrahim al-Asiri was among the dead.

But a Yemen official has confirmed that Asiri did not die in the attack, the Telegraph reports.

It was not clear whether he was present in the area at the time of the strike.

The Saudi-born Asiri, who is of Pakistani descent, was tied to the so-called underwear bomb that was used in an attempt to bring down a Detroit-bound jetliner on Christmas Day in 2009.

Asiri was also believed to have been behind an intercepted pair of explosives-laden printers that were mailed from Yemen to the US in 2010. (ANI)
