Washington, Sept 27(ANI): A new poll has shown that US President Barack Obama leads over top Republican White House contenders, Rick Perry and Mitt Romney by at least 20 points in New York, though the voters are evenly divided over re-electing Obama over "someone else."
A Siena College poll showed that Obama commanded 56 percent support, as compared to Perry, who was favoured by 36 percent respondents, and Romney who secured 33 percent support.
Obama's New York favorability rating remained at 52 percent for the second month in a row.
The poll also showed that Obama's policies are more popular than Republicans' among New Yorkers.
At least 33 percent of respondents approved Obama's "American Jobs Act", and only 19 percent opposed it, the New York Post reports.
According to the poll, 52 percent respondents preferred Obama's job creation plan to the Republican Congressional leadership plan.
Yet two thirds of respondents said the US is heading in the wrong direction.
"The bad news for the President is that when voters judge him in the absence of Republican opposition, his numbers are weak. The good news for the President is that when matched up against Republicans - those in Congress or potential presidential challengers - his numbers are strong," poll spokesperson Steven Greenberg said.
