Supreme Court dismisses Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur's bail plea

New Delhi , Fri, 23 Sep 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Sep 23(ANI): The Supreme Court today refused to grant bail to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, key accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blasts case.

Thakur's lawyer had said that she was entitled to bail as Maharashtra's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) had failed to file the chargesheet against her within the mandatory 90 days of her arrest on October 23, 2008.

However, a bench of justices J.M. Panchal and H.L. Gokhale said: "There is no merit in the petition."

The ATS claims that Thakur had formed a group to take revenge for the Mumbai train bomb blasts and that her motorcycle was used in bomb blast.

The blast in Malegoan on September 29, 2008, claimed lives of eight persons and injured seventy others. (ANI)
