Melbourne, Sep 23(ANI): Victorian Bushrangers coach Greg Shipperd fears that public lobbying by several former cricketers for the Australian coach job could lead to a hijacking of the global search promised by Cricket Australia (CA) after the Argus review.
Early favourites to replace Tim Nielsen include former New Zealand coach Steve Rixon, former South Africa coach Mickey Arthur and former Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody.
CA had earlier announced that its priority was to appoint a general manager of team performance, who will then lead the search for a head coach and national selector.
Shipperd further declined to say whether he would add his name to the list of contenders.
"All I can say is my reading of the Argus report was that the general manager of team performance was to be appointed first and that person would pick the coach and make other key appointments," the Age quoted Shipperd, as saying.
"But it looks like that process is being hijacked, with certain people publicly lobbying for the job. People currently in key positions of influence in my opinion should be keeping their thoughts on those issues private," he added. (ANI)
