NHRC constitutes advisory group on media, human rights

New Delhi, Sep.23 (ANI): The National Human Rights Commission has constituted its "Advisory Group on the Media and Human Rights" comprising twelve senior media persons representing different major news organizations in the country.

 

The Advisory Group has been set up as part of media and outreach policy of the Commission formed recently. The aim of the Advisory Group is to have regular interaction with media and to seek its enhanced and active role in promotion and protection of the human rights of the common man.

 

Terms and reference of the Advisory Group are as under:-

 

To advise the Commission how best to use media to promote human rights in the country;

 

To review the existing, mechanism of the Commission with regard to 'Media and Outreach Policy' and make suggestions for further improvement;

 

To advise the Commission in seeking enhanced and active role of media in creating awareness amongst masses on the human rights issues;

 

Any other issue which may be considered relevant by the Advisory Group.

 

The Advisory Group will be chaired by Mr. Justice K. G. Balakrishnan, Chairperson, NHRC and in its absence by the senior most Member of the Commission, present. Following are the members of the Advisory Group:-

7. N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu

 

8. Q.W. Naqvi, News Director, Aaj Tak

 

9. Sanjay Gupta, Editor and CEO, Dainik Jagran

 

10. Sanjoy Narayan, Editor-in-Chief, Hindustan Times

 

11. Shashi Shekhar, Chief Editor, Hindustan
