Harpreet's hat-trick in BSF's resounding win (Capital Sports)
A fine hat-trick by Harpreet Singh enabled Border Security Force (BSF), Jalandhar to register a convincing 4-1 victory over State Bank of Travancore (SBT), Thiruvananthapuram, in a group B league match of the fourth Lt. Governor’s DDA invitational football tournament played at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Thursday.
Balraj Singh scored the other goal for the winner while Denis Afan Mark scored the lone consolation goal for the loser.
In a group ‘A’ encounter, a goal each by Amandeep Singh (24th minute) and Gurbinder Singh (88th minute) aided Punjab Police to get past the challenge of Peerless SC, Kolkata by two goals margin.
Meanwhile on Wednesday, ONGC XI Mumbai got the better off local challenge put up by Ahbab FC, Delhi by an early solitary goal in their league match starting off their campaign for the title.
The lone goal that later turned out to be the match-winner came as early in the 9th minute of the play through Salau Nurudeen Olawale. The Mumbai outfit looked scratchy in their performance and sparkled in patches during the match.
Man of the Match award went to ONGC’s F Lalnaun Puniafor his spirited show all through the match.
In the second match, Jammu and Kashmir Bank and Garhwal Heroes, New Delhi, played out a goalless draw. Both sides have their share of goal scoring chances but could not be able to convert them into goals.
Martin Kalewole of J&K Bank received the Man of the Match award for the second match.
Dhruvpal Godara’s fiver goes in vain
Five goals by Dhruvpal Godara weren’t enough to pull off a win for Cavalry White as they lost 7-1/2 to 10 from Drakon in a league match of the Maharaja Sir Pratap Singh Cup 14-goal polo tournament played at the Army Equestrian Centre, Delhi Cantonment here on Thursday.
Manupal Godara scored the other goal for the loser that had started with a 1-1/2 goal handicap advantage. Atul Gupta (3), Hamza Ali (3), Ravi Rathore (2) and Santiago De Estrada (2) shared the goals for the winner.
In another match, Gerardo Mazzini scored four goals to guide Elevation to a 5-3 victory over Horse and Wagon. Satinder Garcha scored the other goal for the winner. Angad Kalaan scored all the goals for the loser.
Sarang guides St. Columba’s to RG Williams final
A fine 68 by Sarang Rawat guided St. Columba’s School to score a four-wicket victory over RP Academy in the semifinals of the ninth R.G. Williams memorial cricket tournament here.
The scores: RPCA 196 in 39.2 overs (Anshul Baluni 54, Aakash Yadav 51) lost to St. Columba’s School 197 for six in 38.1 overs (Sarang Rawat 68).
