London, Sept 21 (ANI): Former South African president Nelson Mandela has warmly welcomed his 12th great-grandchild into his illustrious clan.
The little boy is the son of his heir, Mandla Mandela, and his wife Nobuble.
The 93-year-old former statesman named the boy Qheya Zanethemba, meaning 'to bring hope,' in a traditional ceremony close to Mandela's birthplace in Qunu, the Telegraph reports.
Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, also known as Mandla Mandela, said in a statement that the name was chosen as "a symbol of the continuity of the family".
"As the firstborn son of Nkosi Dalibhunga (Nelson Mandela)'s male heir, the child represents a continuation of the Mandela family and the journey undertaken by their forefathers," he said.
The new arrival will definitely bring joy to the Mandela family after a series of bereavements.
Last June, Mandela's great granddaughter Zenani, 13, died in a car crash after attending the World Cup kick-off concert.
Zenani's mother Zoleka lost another child when her son was born three months prematurely. (ANI)
