Bangalore, Sep 19 (ANI): Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Shivaraj V. Patil resigned from his post today following the controversy over allotment of housing sites for him and his wife.
"I did not ask for the position of Karnataka Lokayukta. When offered, I accepted this as an opportunity to serve the people of Karnataka with commitment and concern. A malicious campaign has been carried out over the past few days against me. I wish to clarify for people to know and judge for themselves on the holding of land and sites by my wife and myself," Justice Patil told mediapersons here.
"This malicious campaign has deeply hurt and pained me. In this uncongenial atmosphere, I have deemed it appropriate to submit my resignation," he added.
According to reports, Justice Patil got into a sticky situation when documents surfaced showing him to be in possession of two sites of 9,600 square feet and 4,012 square feet from two housing cooperative societies, a clear violation of law. (ANI)
