London, Sept 16 (ANI): Roman Polanski will be returning to Switzerland to collect his lifetime achievement award, two years after his "historic" sex crimes arrest.

The 78-year-old French director will be receiving the award he had been due to collect in September 2009, when he was detained in connection with child-sex charges.

The tribute ceremony on 27th September will be followed by the world premiere of what organisers have said is a non-fiction film.

"We are especially proud to welcome Roman Polanski this year to receive his award," the Daily Mail quoted directors Karl Spoerri and Nadja Schildknecht as saying.

"We have always been tremendous admirers of his work and we are delighted that we will soon be able to express this to him in person," they stated.

The French director was held after the U.S. requested his extradition over a 1978 case in which he fled sentencing in America after pleading guilty for having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

Although Polanski's movements are still restricted by an Interpol warrant in effect in 188 countries, yet he moves freely between Switzerland and France. (ANI)
