SGGSC, Chandigarh storms into Nehru hockey semis
Riding on Ameet Bhargav's four goals, including a hat-trick, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College (SGGSC), Chandigarh blanked Jamal Mohammed College, Tiruchirapalli, 5-0 to complete the semi-final line-up by becoming the fourth team to qualify for the last four stage of the SAIL-Nehru Champion Colleges Hockey tournament played at the Shivaji Stadium here on Wednesday.
Chandigarh outfit will now take on DAV College, Jalandhar in the first semi-final, while Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar will meet Jawaharlal Nehru PG College, Bhopal in the other semi-final.
The highlight of the day was the four goals scored by Ameet Bhargav, which included a hat-trick. Bhargav slotted his first in the 34th minute and followed with goals in the 63rd, 65th and 67th minutes to sail his team into the semi-finals of the competition. Daljeet Singh scored the other goal of the match.
In an inconsequential match of the day, CRA College, Sonepat routed Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College, Bangalore 6-1. Bijender and Balwinder scored a brace each while Sandeep Kumar and Naveen scored a piece for the Sonepat team. Hari Govindan scored the lone consolation goal for the losers.
