New Delhi/Nalanda (Bihar), Sep.15 (ANI): A day after a group of baton-wielding police officials thrashed women in Bihar's Nalanda District, the state's police chief promised strictest legal action against the offenders.
Director General of Bihar Police Abhyanand said action would be initiated against all guilty offenders, regardless of whether they were men in uniform or not.
"Be it policemen or non-policemen, everyone has to follow the law. That is the prescribed policy. We will investigate the incident as per this policy. We have registered cases against all the guilty offenders who have broken the law, regardless of whether they were policemen or not," he said.
"We will take appropriate action against the guilty as per the provisions of the law," Abhyanand told media persons on the sidelines of a police chiefs conference with Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram in New Delhi.
The shocking police brutality was exposed by local television, which showed scores of officials mercilessly showering baton hits on women in full public view.
One policeman was even caught on camera chasing a helpless woman while brandishing a baton, and then beating her up with brazen impunity as she fell on the ground. (ANI)
