PM visits RML Hospital to meet people injured in Delhi HC Blast

New Delhi, Wed, 07 Sep 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Sep 7 (ANI): The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, visited the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital soon after his return from Bangladesh this evening to meet those injured in the blast that took place outside the Delhi High Court earlier in the day.

Talking to media persons while en route to Delhi after completing his maiden two-day bilateral visit to Dhaka, Dr. Singh said that he was confident about the administrative machinery's ability to win the war against terrorism.

"I am confident this is a war that we will and must win. I have talked about cooperation with all political parties. Instead of wasting time on mutual recrimination and mutual accusations, I would appeal to all political parties, all shades of intelligent public opinion in the country to pool their knowledge, wisdom and experience on how we can tackle this," said Singh.

"We have put in place several innovative mechanisms after the Mumbai blasts, but there are unresolved problems, and terrorists take advantage of them. We must work hard to plug those weaknesses," he added.

The Prime Minister was responding to a question in the aftermath of an explosion outside gate number five of the Delhi High Court complex that claimed 11 lives and injured 76.

Dr. Singh had earlier in the day described the blast outside the Delhi High Court premises as a cowardly act and vowed that his government and the country would not succumb to the scourge of terrorism.

According to latest reports, at least 11 people have been killed and around 76 others left injured following the blast. The blast took place outside Delhi High Court's Gate Number Five at around 10: 14 a.m.

The injured are being treated at three hospitals-Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences and the Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital.

The Union Home Ministry continues to assess the situation arising out of the blast. A national alert is in place in the wake of the incident. (ANI)
