Tripoli, Sep 3(ANI): Libya's national football team is set to unveil a white kit, which marks a break with the green colour associated with ruler Muammar Gaddafi's regime.
The new kit would make its debut during the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Mozambique.
The team would now don a white kit bearing a pre-Gaddafi period's red, black and green striped flag with a crescent moon, which is now adopted by the National Transitional Council.
The change in the colour of Libyan team kit symbolizes the onset of the new regime and Libyan football's break with its own ties to the Gaddafi family, the Guardian reports.
The green colour, which symbolized Gaddafi's era, was used on the Libyan flag after his taking over in 1977 and formed the cover of his political manifesto.
Four Libyan footballers were reported to have joined the rebels in June, including goalkeeper Juma Gtat.
The team was pictured practicing during a training session in the new kit.
"Quite excited about the Libya - Mozambique game on Saturday. New kit original independence anthem. First time I can proudly support the team," an avid football fan Omar Amer AlBarghathi tweeted his excitement about the new kit. (ANI)
