The Defence Minister A K Antony will inaugurate the 5th DefExpo-2008 at Pragati Maidan on Saturday. Organised by the department of defence production the event will place around 273 companies from over 30 countries to display weapon system for army and navy. With the growing requirements of Indian armed force the market of export and import for India’s defence technology is also at its pace for being self reliance in this sector. As per the official sources as many as 90 products will be launched by all companies participating in this expo.

Considering the growth in India’s defence industry in recent years India has also emerged as one of the market and also an ideal investment target for joint venture and technological tie-ups. In its earlier four attempts it has been successful enough to attract attention of many foreign companies and also other major defence exhibitions.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as the event manager in its constant endeavour is trying to create and uphold an environment which is conducive to growth of Indian industry. This time too the organisers are dedicated to build India a global place for land and naval systems business activity.

Besides projecting India as a market for defence products, the event also aims to present India as one of the front runner in the defence technology and the nations’ R&D in this regard.

Though the first expo came up in 1999 but since then the event has witnessed an unprecedented growth in terms of number of participants; in its 5th edition it is expected to feature more companies compared to the previous edition in 2006.
