Beijing, Sep 1 (ANI): Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) and one of the world's highest cities, is set to host the 6th international half-marathon on September 10.
TAR Sports Bureau Vice Director Yang Zhanqi said about 5000 athletes from all over the world would participate in the event.
The half-marathon was inaugurated in 2004, the Xinhua news agency reports.
Its track usually starts from the Potala Square and ends at the Horse Track, passing along a number of scenic sites such as the Norbublingka, Tibet Museum, Tibet University, Sera Monastery and Barkor Street in Tibet.
The 2010 "Cheer for Life", marathon had attracted 4,660 participants from 19 countries.
Lhasa, situated at an altitude of 3490 meters above the sea level, is one of the world's highest cities. (ANI)
