Kasargod (Karnataka), Aug 30 (ANI): Family of N. Mohammad Nangi, hostage held by Somali pirates, has criticised the Central government of apathy in making efforts to rescue the victim.
Somali pirates hijacked a tanker naming Five N Bongi around 13 days ago.
Father of the hostage, Abdullah informed that he has received calls from the authorities of the ship who told him about his son's captivity.
"We got a call from authorities of the ship saying Mohammad Nangi is on a ship captured by the pirates and we are in touch with him. They ask him not to worry and stay safe. Later on after two days they took my mobile number and called me from a number; in fact they also called me twice today," said Abdullah.
He said that his son was recruited as a chef on the ship that was carrying chemical oils from Mumbai and was heading towards the Gulf countries when it got hijacked near Oman.
There has been a rise in pirate attacks on merchant vessels within Indian waters.
India has warned of an increased threat to shipping off its southwest coast, as Somali pirates hunt targets beyond African waters to evade international naval force. (ANI)
