India celebrates Anna's victory

Varanasai/Moradabad/Pune/Dehradun/Ahmedabad/Jaipur, Aug 28 (ANI): Supporters of veteran social activist Anna Hazare celebrated across the country on Sunday after he ended his 12-day long fast for a strong and effective Lokpal Bill.

 

Supporters in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi city distributed sweets and burst crackers to celebrate Hazare's victory.

 

Rajiv Trivedi, a supporter said the victory of Anna Hazare is the victory of every Indian.

 

"The people of Kashi (Varanasi), the members of Bhartendu Academy (a social organisation) are celebrating today on the victory of Anna Hazare, who is fighting on behalf of millions of Indians and wants to eradicate corruption," said Trivedi.

 

"We all are celebrating, distributing sweets, bursting crackers, and for showing our gratitude towards him, we have organised a rally and we want to congratulate Anna Hazare," he added.

 

Supporters in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad city turned out on the streets in large numbers holding Indian flags and shouting 'Vande Mataram'.

 

They organised a 'yagna' and prayed for Hazare.

 

Meanwhile, supporters in Maharashtra's Pune city also celebrated the civil society's victory.

 

"Anna ji has showed us a path. We all along with the officers (of the country) would build a corrupt-free India. I am hopeful that before death, I would like to see an independent and corrupt-free nation," said Ajit Machale another supporter of Hazare from Pune.

 

Residents of Uttarakhand's Dehradun city took out a rally and celebrated with colours. The supporters were also seen raising slogans 'long live Anna' and 'victory to mother India'.

 

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Harish Rawat also hailed the anti-corruption campaign and added that he was optimistic that the nation would soon get an effective Jan Lokpal Bill.

 

"This should be seen in the direction that what India has got and what it would get in the future. Everybody should pray that we are able to make a good Jan Lokpal," he said.

 

Meanwhile, Hazare's supporters in Gujarat's Ahmedabad city danced on the streets and burnt firecrackers to show their support for him.

 

"This victory is the second victory of independence. If any personality who has been able to attract youth and become their source of inspiration after Mahatma Gandhi, it is Anna Hazare. Anna ji has awakened the youth," said Manish, supporter.

 

Hazare's supporters in Rajasthan's Jaipur city named a market after his name as a mark of respect.

 

"Whole market has got influenced from Anna ji. He has done a lot for us then why cant we keep name of the market after his name, so we kept the name of our market as Anna Hazare Market," said Moolchand Yadav, supporter.

 

Hazare broke his over 288 hour-long fast at New Delhi's Ramlila Ground after securing Parliament's nod on key elements of Jan Lokpal bill.

 

The 74-year-old social activist was driven straight to Medanta Medicity run by India's top cardiologist Dr Naresh Trehan, who was attending to him along with his team during his entire period of fast. He will stay in the hospital for two to three days. (ANI)
