London, Aug 26 (ANI): A group of British explorers have become the world's first people to row 450 miles to the North Pole in one of the greatest ocean journeys in history.
Jock Wishart, who, along with his four colleagues, rowed across the Atlantic and circumnavigated the globe, said his group was "exhilarated" after completing their "incredible" voyage.
The group had embarked on the expedition to highlight the climate change effects on the North Pole region.
They encountered polar bears and collided with icebergs during the journey. Wishart was even attacked by a seal.
The voyage described as the "greatest ocean rows of all time", could be only possible as seasonal ice-melt in the ocean made navigation possible.
"I think this is one of my greatest achievements. It was a dream four years ago but now it's reality," the Telegraph quoted Wishart, as saying.
"Up until last night we still could not say with certainty that we would reach our destination, so we are all exhilarated and relieved that weather conditions were in our favour and we have completed our row to the magnetic north pole while it was still possible", he added.
Cyclist Mark Beaumont, 28, was also on board making a BBC documentary on the voyage.
The group had set out on a voyage in their specially designed vesel, the Old Pulteney, from Resolute Bay in Canada on July 29.(ANI)
