Parliament adjourned till 2 p.m. over Lokpal row

New Delhi, Aug 23 (ANI): Both Houses of the Parliament have been adjourned till 2 p.m. today with the opposition demanding a discussion on corruption and Lokpal Bill.

 

As soon as the Houses convened, BJP members pressed for suspension of the Question Hour to discuss the serious situation caused by lakhs of people in the country coming out on the streets to protest against corruption.

 

Amid noisy scenes, both the Houses were first adjourned till noon and later till 2 p.m.n the Lok Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj said she has given notice for suspension of Question Hour ".

 

"Scams after scams are being revealed ... the Adarsh society followed by 2G, CWG, Air India and now the KG Basin. People are facing the brunt of price rise and ministers are looting crores (of rupees). People are saying crores are stashed away in foreign banks and there are no funds to build village roads and gutters in the urban areas," she said.

 

Similar scene were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha, where a united opposition led by the BJP created uproar demanding suspension of Question Hour to discuss corruption and the Lokpal Bill.

 

As soon as the upper house met, members of the BJP, which had submitted a notice to suspend the question hour and take up the discussion, were up on their feet insisting on their demand.

 

Ruling party members tried to counter the opposition by shouting slogans demanding that question hour proceed.

 

Repeated pleas from Chairman Hamid Ansari for raising the issue after question hour went unheard and the house was adjourned. (ANI)
