Kuala Lumpur, Aug 23 (ANI): The traditional wear in Malaysia for Hari Raya or Eid ul-Fitr this year is featuring a lot of bright colours and shiny sequins that is often associated with Bollywood glamour.
Multi-coloured sequins in all shapes and sizes and heavy beadworks are sewn along the border, neckline and hemline of the baju kurung and other traditional outfits in many outlets around the city.
Lavinia Boutique outlet head Serene Boon, 25, said heavy beading work was very popular this year.
"The designs are very elaborate and they incorporate the use of metallic beads, pearls, sequins and multi-coloured rhinestones," the Star Online quoted her as saying.
She added that the colourful and sparkling clothes worn in Bollywood movies inspired many of the designs this year.
"The bling factor is a definite must this year and the intensity varies depending on customers' tastes.
"Many prefer simple designs but there is also an increasing number of women who requested for more embellishments to their baju kurung," she revealed.
She explained that even most of the traditional clothing for children were also adorned with all sorts of shiny embellishments.
"Other than that, solid bright colours and cotton or lace are also popular this year," she added. (ANI)
