Islamabad, Aug 22(ANI): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will kickstart a door-to-door verification of electoral rolls of 81 million voters from today for the country's next general elections.
This is the first time in the Pakistan's history that such a database of electoral rolls would be prepared by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to ensure transparency in the election process.
The country has been divided into 145,000 census blocks with each census block containing 200 to 250 houses for the purpose of door- to door campaign verification.
The Commission would also aid people to get their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC), which is mandatory for the voters' registration, The Daily Times reports.
Around 36 million new voters with valid CNICs are likely to be registered during the campaign.
The verification process would continue until September 30.
The final voters' list will be published in March 2012 and the next election will be held on the basis of the new voter lists.(ANI)
